How Much Does Speech Therapy Cost in Dubai?
Real 2026 numbers, including our own prices, what an assessment includes, and how UAE insurance treats paediatric therapy.
In Dubai, private paediatric speech therapy sessions typically range from around AED 250 to AED 600 per session, and initial assessments from around AED 500 to AED 1,500 depending on scope and the number of sessions involved. Many UAE insurance plans cover speech and occupational therapy under rehabilitation benefits, usually with an annual session cap or monetary limit, and almost always requiring pre-authorisation and a DHA-licensed provider.
Why Most Clinics Will Not Tell You This
Very few therapy clinics in Dubai publish anything about cost. The reason is usually that pricing depends on what a child actually needs — which is true, but it leaves parents ringing round six clinics trying to build a picture nobody will give them.
We would rather tell you how the money works, so you can plan. Here is the honest version.
What You Are Actually Paying For
| Stage | What it involves | Typical Dubai range |
|---|---|---|
| Initial assessment | Parent interview, play-based observation, formal and informal measures where useful, a written report and a feedback session. | AED 500 – 1,500 |
| Therapy session | Usually 45–60 minutes, one to two times a week depending on need, including planning and parent handover. | AED 250 – 600 |
| Co-treatment | Speech and occupational therapist working together in one session — useful where sensory needs and communication are tangled together. | Varies by clinic |
| Parent coaching | Working directly with you rather than only with your child. Often the highest-value spend per dirham. | Varies by clinic |
| Reports for school or insurance | Written documentation for nurseries, schools or pre-authorisation. Some clinics include this, some charge separately. | Ask before you book |
Ranges above reflect the Dubai private market generally, not our own fees.
What Starwalkers charges
AED 1,999 for a 10-session package of speech and language therapy or occupational therapy at our Dubai Healthcare City clinic. That works out at under AED 200 per session, against a Dubai private market that typically runs AED 250 to 600.
We can price this way because we are a small, therapist-led clinic without a large sales or admin layer, and because our model puts parent coaching at the centre, so families need fewer sessions over time rather than more. The price is for the same DHA-licensed, neurodiversity-affirming therapists who run every session here.
Does Insurance Cover Speech Therapy in the UAE?
Often, yes — but with conditions that catch families out. The pattern across most UAE plans looks like this:
Speech and occupational therapy are usually classed as rehabilitation benefits rather than general outpatient care, and carry their own separate limit.
Typically either an annual monetary limit or a session limit — commonly in the region of 15 to 30 sessions a year. Once it is used, it is used.
Nearly always. You will usually need a referral or medical necessity letter and an approved treatment plan before sessions start, not after.
A DHA licence is the baseline requirement for reimbursement in Dubai. Therapy from an unlicensed provider is not claimable, however good it is.
Some plans exclude or limit therapy connected to autism, ADHD and developmental delay specifically, even while covering therapy after injury or illness. This is the most common unpleasant surprise.
Essential Benefits Plans generally do not include paediatric developmental therapy. Comprehensive and international plans are far more likely to.
Nine Questions to Ask Your Insurer
Call the number on your card and ask these, in this order. Write down the answers and the name of the person who gave them.
- Is paediatric speech and language therapy covered on my plan?
- Is occupational therapy covered, and is it a separate limit or the same one?
- Is the limit a number of sessions or a dirham amount, and what is it per year?
- Does the cover change if the therapy relates to autism, ADHD or developmental delay?
- Do I need pre-authorisation, and what documents do you need to approve it?
- Do I need a referral from a paediatrician first?
- Is the assessment covered, or only the therapy sessions that follow it?
- Is this direct billing at the clinic, or do I pay and claim it back?
- Does my policy renewal reset the limit, and when is my renewal date?
Question four is the one that matters most and the one parents almost never think to ask.

How to Spend Less Without Getting Less
- Prioritise parent coaching. An hour a week of therapy is roughly half a percent of your child’s waking week. Coaching that changes the other ninety-nine percent does more than a second weekly session, and usually costs less.
- Ask about frequency honestly. Twice a week is not automatically better than once. Ask any clinic to justify the frequency they recommend, and be wary of a fixed package sold before your child has been assessed.
- Use blocks and reviews. A defined block of sessions followed by a review is easier to budget than an open-ended commitment, and it forces a conversation about whether it is working.
- Consider online sessions for some of the work. Parent coaching, language work and follow-up translate well online and remove the commute. See our online therapy options.
- Time your assessment around your policy renewal if your annual limit is nearly used up.
- Do not wait for a diagnosis to start. Waiting lists for diagnostic appointments in Dubai can run for months, and the wait is often the most valuable window your child has. Read about the assessment pathway.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does speech therapy cost in Dubai?
Private paediatric speech therapy sessions in Dubai typically range from around AED 250 to AED 600 per session, with initial assessments generally between AED 500 and AED 1,500 depending on scope. At Starwalkers Clinic in Dubai Healthcare City, a 10-session package of speech or occupational therapy is AED 1,999, which is under AED 200 per session.
How much does a 10-session speech therapy package cost in Dubai?
At Starwalkers Clinic, a 10-session package of speech and language therapy or occupational therapy costs AED 1,999. Packages let families budget for a block of therapy and review progress at the end of it rather than committing open-ended.
Is speech therapy covered by insurance in the UAE?
Many comprehensive and international plans cover speech and occupational therapy under rehabilitation benefits, usually with an annual session or monetary cap and requiring pre-authorisation from a DHA-licensed provider. Basic Essential Benefits Plans generally do not. Cover for therapy relating to autism, ADHD or developmental delay specifically varies significantly between policies.
How many sessions will my child need?
Nobody can answer this honestly before assessing your child, and a clinic that quotes you a fixed number over the phone is guessing. What a good clinic will do is agree a block of sessions, set clear goals, and review with you at the end of it.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
Not to book with us. Your insurer may require one for reimbursement, so check that before your first session if you plan to claim.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-clinic?
Often, and it removes travel time and cost. For parent coaching, language work and follow-up it can be equally effective. Sensory and motor work is generally better in person.
What is included in the assessment fee?
At most Dubai clinics an assessment fee covers the parent interview, direct assessment sessions, a written report and a feedback discussion. Check whether the report and feedback session are included before booking anywhere — at some clinics they are charged separately.
Can I claim therapy back if I pay privately?
If your plan covers paediatric therapy and you have the required pre-authorisation, usually yes. Keep the invoice, the therapist’s DHA licence details, the report and any referral letter. Reimbursement without prior approval is frequently refused, so get the approval first.
